You are a reporter and editor for the local Hillsboro newspaper. You are reporting on the Cates trial. Create the front page(s) of your newspaper.

Directions:

1. Name your paper.

2. Create the headline and story reporting the trial’s events thus far. This must include:

· A summation of the action—who was on the stand? What happened?

· Quotes from local citizens and major characters (either from the play or your imagination—but stay in character).

3. Write an editorial* for allowing evolution in schools.

4. Write an editorial* against teaching evolution in schools.

5. Include at least one additional article of local news. Think about the town of Hillsboro—what would be front-page news there?

6. Optional: Advertisement(s).

7. Proofread for grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

*An editorial is an opinion. What is the argument for teaching evolution? The argument against it?
