Mrs. Cava and Mrs. Taylor

This year, we will be
team teaching a couple of courses. We
hope that you will enjoy taking Theater Arts, Senior Seminar, and Interpersonal
Communications. This website contains
course descriptions, upcoming events, grading
policy and web resources.
Grading Policy
20% Class Participation:
Students earn one participation grade for each day of class. Unexcused absences (including guidance
referrals, suspensions, etc.) will result in a zero for that day. Attendance can certainly help to bring a
grade up or pull a grade down, depending on your commitment to being here.
80% Assessment:
Students’ understanding of topics covered in class will be
assessed in various ways including but not limited to: written responses,
quizzes, presentations, projects, essays, etc.
Daily assignments/ class work will be counted once in your quarter
average, quizzes and larger writing assignments will be counted twice, major
tests/ projects will be counted three to six times toward your average for the
marking period. I will always make clear
how many times a particular assignment will count in determining your grade in
the course.
Theater
Arts: Students will explore the use of drama as a means of communication. Classes include the use of improvisation,
scene study, and character analysis to boost students’ written and verbal
literacy skills. Another major component
of the course is an overview of the history of theatre and of the varied forms
of theatre found in different cultures.
Students will keep a journal describing their experiences with acting
and scene study, read and respond to different plays from various cultures and
points in history, and create original one-act plays through a playwriting
workshop.
Senior Seminar: The Senior Seminar curriculum focuses on life skills
and the importance of career development as suggested by the New Hampshire
Department of Education Career Development
Frameworks. This course aids students in
preparing for life after high school.
Goal setting, the college application process, career exploration, job
search resources, interview techniques, resume writing, budgeting, life
planning and time management are all discussed at length and documented in a
student centered portfolio.
Events: College
Tours and Presentations will be updated as scheduled.
